When is St. Patrick’s Day?
In 2025, St. Patrick’s Day will fall on Monday, the 17th of March. I’ve celebrated a lot of Paddy’s days, when this holiday does not land on the weekend, we still party like it has.
Our celebration of Irish heritage is spread all over the world, but there is no place like home for this day. This annual celebration is usually coinciding with Ireland playing their last game in the Six Nations Rugby competition.
Is St. Patrick’s Day a public Holiday in Ireland?
This celebration of one of Ireland’s Patron Saint is also recognised as a public holiday in Ireland. On a Bank Holiday, otherwise known as a national Holiday most businesses including banks, and all schools and colleges will close.
However as St Patrick’s day falls on Monday, Monday the 17th of March will be a Bank Holiday. Meaning that after you celebrate and party in the capital city, you can stay relaxed on Monday in the Arthaus Hotel.
St. Patrick’s Day 2026 Parade Route
The parade will begin at 12pm on Parnell Street. This will see the concession wiggle and twist through the tight medieval streets of the city centre. The Parade will come to a finish at Kevin Street. However there are tonnes of great spots to catch the action on the way.
The official route for St. Patrick’s Day parade 2026 is as follows. Parnel Street to Parnell Square, along O’Connell Street over the bridge to Westmorland street. At College Green, the parade will turn right onto Dame Street. Following this street to Lord Edward st, then to Nichols St, Patrick Street and finishing on Kevin Street.
If you are staying in the Arthaus Hotel, we would recommend finding a space after breakfast. One of our favourite viewpoints is about a 12 minute walk to O’Connell street where you will be in the centre of the route.
While you may be in a huge crowd on the bridge, Saint Patrick’s Park is a brilliant area to view from. The being at the top of the hill allows a vantage point over the crowd.
There are accessible viewing points along the route for wheelchair users at O’Connell Street, Westmoreland Street & at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. As well as for some of the thousands of visitors with additional needs to the capital city. Applications for these areas can be entered from early february.
A hidden gem that many people overlook are restaurants or cafes that overlook the street from the second floor! There are plenty of these on O’Connell street and Dame street. Make a reservation for one from 12pm onwards and get a birds eye view from the comfortable seats.
St. Patrick’s Day 2026 Festival Quarter
The historic Collins Barracks hosts the 2025 St Patrick’s Festival Quarter. This will be a busy and bustling hub. Hosting activities, concerts, shows and stalls all throughout the weekend. The area is easily accessible by Luas, Bus and train.
The Day to Night event will take place on the Saturday and Sunday of the festival. This will be the 15th & 16th of March. The festival main stage holds a capacity crowd of 3,000 people,with more relaxed and unique spaces dotted around the area. The Food and Craft Village will have stalls offering hand made Irish food and crafts.
All daytime events will be free of charge, along with the full day and night programme on St. Patrick’s Day. No ticket is required and entry is on a first come, first served basis, subject to capacity. Currently there is only one ticketed event. All ages are welcome between 12 noon and 6pm. At 6.30pm the festival area turns into an adults only event.

St. Patrick’s Day Floats
The Dublin St. Patrick’s Day parade consists of floats, street performers, marching bands, sports teams and you may see some celebrities. Every year there is a grand marshall and a guest of honour at the parade, so keep your eyes peeled for some of your favourite friends. In 2024, the Grand Marshall was Patrick Kielty.
In 2024, St. Patrick’s Day Parade Floats saw some hilarious re-enactments of topical news pieces of the year, along with the classic floats that appear nationwide.
In the Dublin Parade, you will see an incredible float from the Junk Kouture. Since 2010, Junk Kouture has brought together an inclusive community and engaged more than 100,000 participants in an effort to spread environmental awareness and promote creative expression.
Their national competitions have resulted in 15,000 distinct designs, prevented 40,000kg of waste from ending up in landfills. Each year their float at the colorful street Parade wows the crowd as they pass by with the futuristic designs of the 21st century. 2024 was the cities Greenest parade ever!
St. Patrick’s Day Clothes
For centuries, Ireland has long been known as the emerald isle. It’s no surprise that we honour this tradition by wearing green on Saint Patricks Day. Wheter it’s a t-shirt or a three piece suit it’s bad luck not to wear green on the luckiest day of the year.
An ancient tale goes that leprechauns pinch people that they can see. The tale goes on to say that those wearing green become invisible to the leprechauns and as such avoid being pinched!
